My copilot and me where picked up in this factory-car from Rolls-Royce at the shoreham airport in the south of England (which is the oldest airport at least in Europe). first we where driven towards the RR-factory in Good Wood, but later on I had the chance to drive this baby myself.

As said earlier with the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé, no matter what you think about such a car, it is impressive for the one who drives it and every body else in sight. Not because of its speed or technology, it is just the aura and flair that comes with the brand. And on top of all the finishing is really second to none…

A friend of mine who has also several cars gave me her Jeep to cruise around Sardinia to find a pice of land in the wild of the island for my retirement, if and whenever that happens. Therefore this Jeep was the perfect car for driving through the forests, bushes, along the beautiful beaches and over some rocks. I was really impressed where this car can actually bring you.

Of cause, I know some other 4-wheel-drivers could have done the same, but in a REAL Jeep you feel much more like a modern Marlboro Man.

Only once in my life I had a car for more than 5 (in words “five”) years, because it was exiting from the first to the last day. This was a Mercedes SL 55, which is a bit like the little brother of the SL 65 black series. Although I have never driven this SL Black Series I could imagine that it is a lot of fun to drive on both, a race track and the way to the office.

The only thing I am not sure about is the looks since it is a bit “loud” might be the word – at least for my taste.

Well, apparently I am not really an expert (which I never claimed anyway), but at least I have done some fast laps on several race tracks (check our link to the right) and got a fair amount of experience to take the liberty to write what I really think to know:

First, it is no fun to drive at all if you want to make one or two fast corners. It feels a bit like a boat, but not on smooth sea. The sound is very similar to the one of a blow dryer and the roof construction is, well there is not roof construction because there is no real roof.

As you might know, my car-heart beats mostly for Ferrari, but definitely not this one. This is the only Ferrari I was ever disappointed and lost a lot of money with…

It is not as fast on the race track as the new Ferrari 458 (actually no car really usable is as fast there as the 458) but way more sportive than any other Coupé I can think of having. With 645 hp (all right, a bit tuned since the normal version has “only” 612 hp) and a torque of more then 1.000 nm you can really feel sheer power there. And the sound of its 12 cylinders in full action is, well, not to describe with words.

At the same time you can cruise very comfortable with a friend and two ladies to the opera, listening already at a very high quality to what you will hear later on live and all of you would sit extremely comfortable and – not to forget – in one of the safest places on our streets.

No matter what one might think about cars and environment or crises, this car is impressive. Technology is up to date and the finishing is just Rolls Royce, but this seems obvious and nothing new to me.

What was new to me is the feeling you have when you drive this car. Nothing to compare with going to the limits of physics on a race track, sweating and competing with other pilots. This feeling is the opposite, being in this car you don’t want to compete with anyone around you.
